The Seeds of Change Project draws to a Close

In the Autumn of 2020 we at Neath Port Talbot Mind launched the Seeds of Change Project which was Funded by Children in Need.

The project aimed to provide a range of mental health support to young people aged 11 – 18, through one-to-one therapeutic interventions, peer support groups, coping strategies sessions and counselling.

During the three year project, as an Organisation we navigated through a difficult and uncertain time due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, ensuring that our support was still available remotely for those who needed or wanted it. Following on from the pandemic and restrictions easing, we saw an increase in demand for this service and worked tirelessly to ensure that we were able to offer support to all of the young people who had referred into the project.

Through offering opportunities and guidance for young people to learn strategies to manage their own mental health in a more positive way, offering a safe space for young people to explore and process their feelings and providing an opportunity for young people to meet and engage with other young people with similar struggles to themselves, we were able to see improvements in young people’s emotional wellbeing and self-esteem.

During the course of the 3 year project, we had the opportunity to organise activities for the young people to engage in, with a view to encourage them to get outdoors, get active, socialise and reap the benefits to their mental health.

We at Neath Port Talbot Mind would like to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you to Children in Need, without whom this project would not have been possible. This funding has allowed us to improve the lives of hundreds of young people throughout Neath Port Talbot.
